About

The southern edge of the West End is known as one of the most attractive waterfront urban areas in Vancouver. The remarkable shoreline extends from the edge of False Creeks Aquatic Centre to Stanley Park and the edge of Coal Harbour. The pedestrian/cyclist seawall that runs along the shoreline is accessible to everyone and remarkably, is no more than 30 minutes walk from the downtown core.

West End residents exhibit lower household income levels than their city and regional counterparts. Average 2001 household income levels in the West End were $45,542 as compared with $57,916 for Vancouver and $63,003 for the GVRD.

With a total population of 44,933 the West End neighbourhood consists of 52% men and 48% women. Comparatively, the typical gender profile for the City of Vancouver is 49% men and 51% women.

Geography

According to the city, the area west of Burrard Street, the West End reaches east of Denman Street, and south of West Georgia Street. Historically the term originated and remains used by Vancouverites to refer to everything from Burrard Street to Stanley Park, including north of West Georgia (now officially “Coal Harbour Neighbourhood”) and west of Denman Street (“Stanley Park Neighbourhood”).
